Tangential view of Sequoia cambium

A tangential section of sequoia (Sequoia sempervirans) through the vascular cambium. Shown here are fusiform initials and ray initials.

Many orderly arranged primary pit fields are found in the radial walls of the fusiform cells. Note the appearance of intrusive growth of some fusiform cells.

The primary pit-fields (the deeply depressed primary wall regions) in the radial walls of cambial cells generally lack plasmodesmata. The primary pit-fields are the shallow regions between the "beads" of the radial walls of cambial cells.
